William Peterson Ph.D. Profile

Dr William R . Peterson is the original developer of the technolgy that Zoono products are based on. Dr Peterson is the CEO and Co Founder, with Benee Berman, of Coating Systems Laboratories Inc, a sister company of Zoono Group Limited.

Dr Peterson is the Chief Scientist and works closely with the Zoono Group developing new products and enhancing the current technologies.

He holds a B.S. in Organic Chemistry from Muhlenberg College, an M.A. in Organosilicon Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Organosilicon Chemistry from Temple University. HIs thesis was on the chemistry of organoazidosilanes.

Dr. Peterson began his training in organosilicon chemistry as an undergraduate and extensively expanded his knowledge in the field while completing graduate studies at Temple University through research and individualized studies. He has a broad background in leading edge medical, semiconductor, ophthalmic and clean room product design and management. Creatively integrating technologies from diverse fields and transforming these elements into world class product solutions is his specialty. He has spent the past several years developing two new chemical products for surface modification and preparation in semiconductor chip fabrication materials, for rigid gas permeable ophthalmic devices, a revolutionary new antimicrobial material for topical skin applications and water purification and development of a line of leading edge pool chemicals sold under the DiamondClear trademark. He was also responsible for the design, development and patenting of the antimicrobial material, Requat, for Sanitized Inc., a division of Lonza. He was responsible for the successful EPA registration of this product and enabled it to be the second largest silicon-containing antimicrobial treatment available for textiles.

Dr. Peterson also developed the current waterproofing agent for the NASA space shuttles following contracting by Rockwell International of Downey, CA. For this previous work with interpenetrating polymer networks through injection molding of silicon-containing plastics, he received the Industrial Research and Development IR100 award for on of the 100 best technology products. He pioneered the production of polysilicon methacrylates for Syntex Corp., used to prepare hard, gas-permeable contact lenses for Paragon Optical and others that are currently being used in the high-end ophthalmic lens market today. His pioneering work as cofounder of Petrarch Systems Inc. produced a wide range of commercially successful silanes and silicones. Earlier research at Temple University in collaboration with Dr. Steven Washburn of MIT resulted in a novel method of producing a new class of azauracils exhibiting broad spectrum and tumor activity and subsequent funding by the Cancer Research Institute.

Dr. Peterson has more than 60 patents and 100 peer reviewed publications. Working under contract, his work has produced patented technologies for Cryo-Chem International, Inc., Sanitized, Inc. IBM, Motorola Inc., Syntex Corp., Paragon Vision Sciences, Flexible Lens Inc., Chisso Corporation and Huls. A U.S. patent for antimicrobial skin treatments has been allowed and a patent for purification of fluids using quaternary ammonium organosilanes on treated substrates has been filed. This patent is for removing pathogens, viruses, algae and parasitic protozoa from water and fluids has been filed in the U.S. and other countries.

His most recent issued U.S. patents, all of which involve surface modification, follow:
· 5,429,673 - Binary Vapor Adhesion Promoters and Methods of Using the Same.
· 5,702,767 - Non-Aminic Photoresist Adhesion Promoters for Microelectronic Applications
· 5,707,783 - Mixtures of Mono- And Di- Or Polyfunctional Silanes as Silylating Agents for Top Surface Imaging
· 5,882,543 - Methods for Dehydrating, Passivating and Sealing Compressive Systems
· 6,613,755 - Antimicrobial Skin Preparations Containing Organosilane Quatermaries. Co-inventors, David Giaccio, Renee E. Berman.
· 20050008613 - Antimicrobial Quaternary ammonium Organosilane Coatings, Pat. Appl. Filed 5/04 in U.S. and other countries. Co-inventor Renee Berman.

Dr. Peterson has been involved in research, improving synthetic methods, chemical production and new product development throughout his career. He has initiated and completed a number of new plant start-ups. He was the cofounder of Petrarch Systems Inc. which grew from the garage in his home in Pennsylvania to a multimillion dollar research and production facility in ten years. Following his tenure at Petrarch Systems Inc. as President, CEO and COB, he was the inspiration and driving force for the start-up company, MicroSi Inc. in 1986. This venture was conceived by Dr. Peterson following acquisition of Petrarch Systems by Dynamit Nobel, and subsequently, Huls America, a division of the German mega corporation, Veba AG. While working with Huls America he oversaw the successful divestiture of MicroSi to Shin-Etsu Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan. His continued work with this company involved the responsibility for construction, facilitization and start-up chemical production for their two plants in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Peterson was employed at MicroSi until 1992 as Director of Research & Development. Following his resignation from MicroSi, he instituted the successful start-up of Silicon Resources, Inc. in 1992. In collaboration with his present partner, Renee Berman, they formed Coating Systems as a joint venture in 1995. The company was incorporated as Coating Systems Laboratories, Inc. in 2000. In addition to DiamondClear pool products, CSL manufactures the EPA registered pesticidal product Zoonocide and GermFree24, a line of FDA listed hand sanitizers.
